Both Didsbury and Sale teams arrived in torrential drizzle, which threatened to get more persistent and without any significant breeze, the chance of getting a full game in seemed slim at best. Nevertheless after dodging a couple of showers, and Sale winning the toss and deciding to bat, the game started approximately on time. Four overs were possible before more rain arrived, with Sale reaching 27 without loss. Soans Praveen taking advantage of the short boundary with consecutive boundaries. The rain strengthened then slackened and with puddles starting to form, the thoughts of an early finish crossed the minds of a few players. We did manage to re-start and Hamza Ahmed making the breakthrough. Sale re-grouped quickly with a solid stand of 31 between Praveen and Zeb with frequent boundaries left Sale 61-2 after 10. The second wicket seemed to be the catalyst for Didsbury, with wickets falling at regular intervals shared between Dan Murray (2), Zayn Basharat (2) and Stewart Green, leaving Sale 86-8 after 16. Didsbury were keen to keep the total below 100 and the field tightened up protecting the short pavilion side boundary. After 20 overs Sale reached 100-9.
Didsbury made a cautious and watchful start in reply with no boundaries in the first 10 overs and at one stage were 23-0 after 7. However after the first wicket fell (B. Anderson), Matt Goodhall hit 2 in quick succession and the required run-rate was back under control. Faisal Ahmed departed soon after missing a straight one and the Matt Goodhall did his best impression of some shocking Zimbabwean running between the wickets to be left short of his ground when he seemed in good touch. Stewart Green launched a 6 over the car-park and with 4 quick boundaries from Jon Perkins, the win was in sight. Mr Green departed to a sharp- caught and bowled and all that was left was for Hamza Ahmed to hit the bowler back over his head for the win.
